The Nervous System at Work

Understanding ourselves to transform how we work together

Every person brings their nervous system to work.

How we think, communicate, make decisions and respond to challenge is influenced not only by our skills and experience, but by what is happening in our nervous system in any given moment.

The Nervous System at Work is a practical, embodied exploration of how our nervous system shapes the way we experience ourselves, our work and our relationships with others.

At its heart is a simple framework:

Regulate. Reflect. Respond.

We begin by learning to recognise what is happening in our nervous system and developing practical ways to support greater steadiness.

From there, we become curious about our own patterns and responses - learning to see them as information rather than something to judge or fix.

With greater awareness comes greater choice: the possibility of pausing, considering what is happening and responding in ways that better serve ourselves, the people around us and the wider organisation.

This work brings together Polyvagal-informed neuroscience, mindful awareness, self-compassion, conscious communication and embodied practices, combining accessible teaching with reflection and practical experience.

Why this matters at work

When we understand our own nervous system, we can begin to recognise the early signs of stress, understand our habitual responses and have more choice in how we meet challenge and change.

And when we understand that everyone else's nervous system is responding too, there can be greater compassion and less judgement. We become more able to recognise what is happening in ourselves and others, communicate more thoughtfully and create the conditions for healthier, more collaborative relationships.

Our training is not about fixing people or expecting them to remain calm at all times. It is about helping people better understand themselves and each other, creating the conditions for thoughtful responses rather than automatic reactions.

When people have greater awareness of their nervous system, they can free up more capacity for creativity, sound judgement, connection and problem-solving.

How we work together

We offer three levels of engagement, from a 60-minute online keynote or lunch & learn, through to a three-hour workshop and a full-day immersive experience.

Each can be shaped to the needs of your organisation, whether you are looking for an accessible introduction to the nervous system, a deeper opportunity for individual reflection, or a more experiential exploration of how this understanding can transform the way people work together.

The sessions are co-hosted by myself and my colleague Henny Flynn - together we bring extensive experience in corporate leadership and coaching, somatic practice and supporting people through stress, illness and change.
